SUMMARY:Community Foundation of Greater Memphis – 2026 Annual Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Insight\, Impact\, and What Comes Next: 2026 Annual Meeting\nPhilanthropy is navigating a moment of change. Public sentiment\, policy conversations\, and evolving expectations are reshaping the role of charitable organizations—and the way impact happens. \nJoin the Community Foundation of Greater Memphis to reflect on the past year of community investment and consider what this moment means for our community. \nYou’ll hear from Phil Buchanan\, president of the Center for Effective Philanthropy\, who will share new national research on the challenges nonprofits face today—and the role donors play in meeting them. \nYou’ll also hear from Community Foundation president Bob Fockler about our responsive investments and what we’re hearing directly from our donors as they shape our work and commitment to the Mid-South. \nTogether\, we’ll celebrate the impact you helped make possible and explore the opportunities ahead. \nAbout our speaker\nPhil Buchanan\, president of the Center for Effective Philanthropy (CEP)\, is a passionate advocate for the importance of effective philanthropy and a strong nonprofit sector. Hired in 2001 as the organization’s first chief executive\, Phil has led the growth of CEP into the leading provider of data and insight on philanthropic effectiveness. \nPerception reports\nStakeholders’ feedback and experiences are essential to how we at the Community Foundation of Greater Memphis evaluate and improve our work. We are grateful to the donors who\, in fall 2025\, participated in our third Donor Perception survey\, facilitated by CEP\, and the discretionary fund grantees who participated in our first-ever Grantee Perception survey. We will debut the findings from those surveys—condensed and compiled in the 2026 Donor Perception Report and Grantee Perception Report\, at the Annual Meeting.

SUMMARY:Facing a Nonprofit Sector in Crisis
DESCRIPTION:Guest Speaker: Seara Grundhoefer \nAs nonprofits face historic challenges under the current federal administration\, data collected last fall from the Center for Effective Philanthropy reveals that nonprofit organizations are concerned about their ability to continue to operate and are asking for greater support from their funders. In CEP’s new report\, “A Sector in Crisis: How U.S. Foundations and Nonprofits Are Responding to Threats\,” nearly 70% of nonprofit leaders report experiencing funding cuts\, while\, simultaneously\, 65% report experiencing greater demand for their services. As the nonprofit sector reels under these pressures\, how are nonprofits and their foundation funders responding? And what comes next? Join the Nonprofit Cooperative in a discussion with CEP on April 29th digging into these questions and sharing more about learnings from the field.

SUMMARY:Communicating Values in Volatile Times - MIND THE GAP
DESCRIPTION:How do we address the gap between nonprofits and foundations? \nFoundations and nonprofits are navigating an increasingly volatile environment and determining how best to connect with audiences and maintain commitments to serving the public good. Despite the many values we hold in common and the staggering need for our services\, the gap between nonprofits and foundations is widening. \nComNetwork SF Bay Area\, a local chapter of the Communications Network\, is gathering foundation and nonprofit leaders to share how mission-driven leaders working in communications are approaching their messaging and building resilience when the principles and people fundamental to social change work are under attack. \nWe invite you to join us for “Mind the Gap\,” the third event in our Communicating Values in Volatile Times series in San Francisco on April 16\, 2026 from 2:30 – 4:00 pm\, with an informal reception afterwards from 4:00 – 5:00 pm. The first part of the event will feature a conversation between Dwayne Marsh\, President and CEO of Northern California Grantmakers (NCG)\, Glen Galaich\, CEO of the Stupski Foundation\, and Seara Grundhoefer\, Senior Analyst for Research at the Center for Effective Philanthropy (CEP). \nCEP recently released a report called A Sector in Crisis identifying the startling gapbetween what nonprofit organizations say they need during these times and how foundations think about their role in helping nonprofits to navigate this moment. The speakers will briefly discuss the report’s findings\, their perspectives on what is happening in the field\, and what they are hearing and seeing from their respective partners and members. Their remarks will be followed by discussion of how foundations and nonprofits are communicating their values\, and participants will delve into possibilities for greater alignment within the social sector. \nThis event is organized by Regan Douglass of Sparkwise Communications and Minna Jung of RALLY. It is hosted by RALLY\, the Stupski Foundation\, and ComNetwork SF Bay Area\, serving hundreds of professionals using the power of communications to advance positive change in the world. It is free to attend\, and attendees do not need to be members of The Communications Network. \nEVENT DETAILS: Communicating Values in Volatile Times – MIND THE GAP \nWHEN: Thursday\, April 16\, 2026. Presentations and discussion will be from 2:30 – 4:00 pm\, followed by a social hour with drinks and light eats. \nWHERE: Stupski Foundation\, 90 New Montgomery Street\, Suite 1100\, San Francisco \nWHO: Event brought to you by ComNetwork SF Bay Area\, RALLY\, and Sparkwise Communications with space generously provided by Stupski Foundation. \nRSVP/REGISTER HERE! \nThis is an in-person event only (no remote option). Advance registration is required. We will send additional details about the program and format to all registered attendees. If you have specific questions about the event\, please reach out to Regan Douglass at sparkwisecommunications@gmail.com.

SUMMARY:Navigating Uncertain Times: What is Philanthropy’s Role?
DESCRIPTION:In the wake of significant funding shifts on the federal level\, philanthropic investment has never been more important. The philanthropic sector is uniquely positioned to take bold\, timely action to address some of the impacts that revised funding streams will have on nonprofits – we can be flexible\, move nimbly and take risks that others can’t.  \nECCF\, Rockland Trust and Tower Foundation invite institutional funders\, private foundations and individual or family philanthropists to discuss the role that philanthropy can play in this moment and share perspectives on how funders can support grantees and each other through these uncertain times.  \nThe Funders Summit will include an overview discussion led by Phil Buchanan\, President of The Center for Effective Philanthropy\, followed by two interactive breakout sessions that will dig deeper into acute and long-term funding challenges\, innovations and opportunities that funders see despite the challenges\, and the varying levels of risk that funders encounter as they continue to meet their philanthropic goals and advance the issues they care about most. \n \n

SUMMARY:SXSW "Counted Out" Screening & Q&A (Elisha Smith Arrillaga on panel)
DESCRIPTION:Counted Out investigates the biggest crises of our time—political polarization\, racial and economic inequity\, global pandemic and climate change–through an unexpected lens: math. \nIn our current information economy\, math is everywhere. The people we date\, the news we see\, the influence of our votes\, the candidates who win elections\, the education we have access to\, the jobs we get—all of it is underwritten by an invisible layer of math that few of us understand\, or even notice. But whether we know it or not\, our numeric literacy—whether we can speak the language of math\, and how well—is a critical determinant of social and economic power. \nThrough a mosaic of personal stories\, expert interviews\, and scenes of math transformation in action\, Counted Out shows what’s at risk if we keep the status quo. Do we want an America in which most of us don’t consider ourselves “math people”? Where math proficiency goes down as students grow up? Or do we want a country where anyone can understand the math that undergirds our society—and can help shape it? \nThe film is dedicated to Bob Moses\, the civil rights leader and MacArthur genius who saw math access as the civil rights issue of our time\, and whose work we follow in some of the last filmed interviews of his life. \nPanel:\nElisha Smith Arrillaga\nThe Center For Effective Philanthropy \nVicki Abeles\nReel Link Films \nIsmar Volic\nInstitute for Mathematics and Democracy

SUMMARY:SCG's 2024 Annual Conference
DESCRIPTION:We are entering a unique moment in Southern California. While the nation and the world feel increasingly divided\, there is growing global interest in the economic\, environmental\, and cultural potential of our region. Major sporting events coming to Los Angeles\, including the 2026 World Cup\, the 2027 Super Bowl\, and the 2028 Olympics and Summer Paralympics\, are harbingers of the role our region must play as a leader working to solve complex problems from housing and homelessness to climate change and disaster mitigation. \nThere are tremendous opportunities ahead for our region. All of us working across sectors—philanthropy\, government\, corporate\, and community-based organizations—have vital roles to play. But we can’t go about it alone. Now\, more than ever\, we need partnership. Because when we work together\, we work better. \nSCG’s 2024 Annual Conference\, Better Together: Creating a Collective Legacy\, will explore how our sector can leverage this pivotal moment for the long-term benefit of our communities. We will discuss how forging a legacy of equity and prosperity for our region will require us to deepen our relationships and return to fundamental questions about collaboration: How do we build community and trust between ourselves and our partners? Do we have systems of accountability and care amongst one another? What does it mean to be a thriving\, interdependent region with shared values and vision? \nWe hope you will join SCG’s signature annual event to learn about the critical issues our sector will grapple with in the years ahead\, the consequences of the impending November elections\, and the strategies needed to ensure a lasting impact in Southern California. Together\, we will explore the potential of philanthropy to leverage global moments in service of regional movements and progress. \nSeara Grundhoefer\, Analyst\, Research will be speaking.

SUMMARY:June 10\, 2024: ECCF Funders Summit 2024
DESCRIPTION:Join us: What does the Supreme Court decision mean for foundations and nonprofits? \nThe U.S. Supreme Court’s cases of Students for Fair Admissions\, Inc. (“SFFA”) v. University of North Carolina and SFFA v. President and Fellows of Harvard College ruled that race-based affirmative action in higher education violates the 14th Amendment’s Equal Protection Clause and Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. \nWhat does and doesn’t this mean for foundations\, donors\, and nonprofit organizations? The questions to consider are complex and offer varied opinions. Join us as we hear from leading foundation and nonprofit experts who share what this opinion means for foundations\, donors\, nonprofit organizations\, and the community. \nTogether\, we will share and dialogue how these rulings may be impacting our thinking and grantmaking.  Bring your thoughts\, concerns\, opportunities\, and actions to share in this safe space for dialogue and collaboration. \nSpecial Guest Speakers: \n\nElisha Smith Arrillaga\, Vice President for Research\, Center for Effective Philanthropy\nBeth Chandler\, President & CEO\, YW Boston\n\nWe hope you can join us and stay for our networking lunch!
