To help us scale and deepen our impact, we are looking for someone who:

  • Is passionate about education and believes in the power of student voice to improve schools.
  • Loves a well-crafted piece of content with proper punctuation.
  • Has ideas about how to get the right messages in front of the right people and is skilled at communicating to different audiences in different mediums.
  • Has demonstrated writing, editing, and storytelling abilities.
  • Has experience interpreting and/or writing about data; would love to co-author content including reports, case studies, marketing emails, and blog posts.
  • Is a self-starter who can work both independently and collaboratively, motivated by team goals.
  • Is a skilled project manager who likes to keep things organized and on schedule, but who also can recognize necessary pivot points and adjust accordingly.

In this role, you will help our partnerships and external relations team raise YouthTruth’s public profile, elevate student voices in the national conversation, engage new and existing partners, and share our story with a range of audiences. Your work will include:

  • Crafting and co-creating YouthTruth’s written content via website copy, marketing copy, blog posts, op-eds, case studies, and more.
  • Managing YouthTruth’s social media presence on Twitter and LinkedIn with engaging posts to amplify our work; shepherding media relations.
  • Teeing up content for other colleagues; and managing projects, timelines, and details to advance our communications goals.

Reporting to YouthTruth’s Senior Manager of Partnerships and External Relations, you will work collaboratively with the full YouthTruth team as well as staff in other departments at The Center for Effective Philanthropy (CEP), YouthTruth’s parent nonprofit.

Other desired qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree and at least three years of relevant work experience is preferred but we are also interested in skilled and enthusiastic candidates who may have less time on-the-job.
  • Outstanding communication skills. Strong writing and editing skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Experience communicating on social media.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft suite, Salesforce, Google Tools, Creative Commons, Adobe Creative Suite, and WordPress preferred; desire to learn new tools and pick them up quickly required.
  • Experience managing multiple deadlines and juggling multiple work streams while adapting quickly in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and ability to remain flexible in response to business needs of a rapidly growing team.
  • A self-directed learner and doer who can work independently and collaboratively, motivated by team goals.
  • A work ethic consistent with the CEP/YouthTruth organizational culture: thoughtful, commitment to client confidentiality, and demonstrates the highest level of personal integrity and commitment to excellence.

We have offices in Cambridge, Massachusetts and San Francisco, California where the YouthTruth team resides alongside staff in other departments at The Center for Effective Philanthropy (CEP), YouthTruth’s parent nonprofit (and where we enjoy sweeping views of the San Francisco Bay and the Bay Bridge). This role will be based in our San Francisco office.

We strive to balance in-person time with flexibility and the needs of each person, their team, and the larger organization. We believe culture, communication, trust, training, and certain kinds of creative work benefit from in-office interactions – and we believe that the flexibility of remote work also has many advantages. While most staff are currently working remotely full time, safety permitting we aim to return to the office in late winter/early spring. Moving forward we expect to ask staff to be in the office two or three days per week, and everyone will enjoy the option to work fully remotely from anywhere four weeks per year.
