We are all watching with concern and sadness the terrible devastation wrought by Hurricane Harvey. A number of CEP’s colleague organizations have provided helpful resources to guide the giving of those looking to help. Here are a few:
- Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner has established the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund, which you can give to through the Greater Houston Community Foundation.
- The Center for Disaster Philanthropy has launched the CDP Hurricane Harvey Recovery Fund to support medium- and long-term recovery efforts, which are too often overlooked as the media spotlight fades.
- The United Philanthropy Forum has compiled a list of resources, including places to give as well as guides and research on strategies for philanthropic responses to disasters.
- GuideStar offers this list of responding nonprofits, as well as a guide for giving to disaster relief and recovery.
- GlobalGiving has created a Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund that will initially support first responders and survivors’ immediate needs, and also direct funds to local organizations to provide long-term support and build stronger response capacity.
- The New York Times published a comprehensive list of local and national organizations supporting victims, as well as tips for avoiding fundraising scams.
- The Center for High Impact Philanthropy at UPenn has published a blog post with guidance for those looking to help.
