FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Vince Stehle, executive director of Media Impact Funders, has joined the Board of Directors of the Center for Effective Philanthropy (CEP), a nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide data and create insight so philanthropic funders can better define, assess, and improve their effectiveness—and, as a result, their intended impact. He has been elected to a three-year term, which begins January 1, 2013.

Stehle joined Media Impact Funders in 2011, bringing with him an extensive career in both philanthropy and journalism. Stehle was the Program Director for the Nonprofit Sector Support Program at the Surdna Foundation for more than a decade, working to strengthen the policy and advocacy role of nonprofits, their internal management, and their ability to adapt to changing political, economic, and technological environments. Prior to working at Surdna, Stehle covered fundraising and nonprofit management issues as a reporter for the Chronicle of Philanthropy. He has written extensively for other publications, including The Washington Post and The Nation.

“Vince Stehle brings a powerful blend of philanthropic expertise and media savvy that will make him a valuable addition to our board,” said Kathy Merchant, president and CEO of the Greater Cincinnati Foundation and chair of the CEP board.

Stehle has served as Chairperson of Philanthropy New York (formerly the New York Regional Association of Grantmakers) and on the governing boards of VolunteerMatch and the Nonprofit Technology Enterprise Network (NTEN).

“Vince and the Surdna Foundation were among the earliest supporters of CEP, and Vince was a key player in helping CEP win crucial support from other early funders,” said CEP President Phil Buchanan. “He has been a crucial strategic advisor to CEP and a mentor of mine for more than a decade. It’s going to be a pleasure to have his insight and experience on our board for the next three years.”

Vince will join a Board of Directors whose other members include: Phil Buchanan, president of CEP; Christine DeVita, former president of The Wallace Foundation; Crystal Hayling, former president and CEO of the Blue Shield of California Foundation; Christine James-Brown, president and CEO of the Child Welfare League of America; James Knickman, president and CEO of the New York State Health Foundation; Kathryn Merchant, president and CEO of the Greater Cincinnati Foundation; Grant Oliphant, president and CEO of The Pittsburgh Foundation; Christy Pichel, president of the Stuart Foundation; Nadya Shmavonian, president of Public/Private Ventures; and Anne Warhover, president and CEO of the Colorado Health Foundation.
