As 2013 draws to a close, we’ll all think back on the highlights – and lowlights – of the year. For me, a highlight was our conference in Detroit in May. If there was one theme that emerged from that gathering of foundation CEOs and senior executives, it was a need for a more brutal honesty about what works, what doesn’t, and what is needed for greater impact.

If you weren’t there, this five and a half minute videos captures some of the best moments. I hope you enjoy it. And if you were there, I hope this serves as a reminder of some of the important words of those from inside and outside the world of philanthropy.

May 2014 be a year of great progress in foundation effectiveness and impact. Happy New Year!
