In CEP’s 2025 State of Nonprofits report, nonprofit leaders share the challenges they are facing, including that:
- The polarized and unpredictable political climate poses risks to their funding, their organizational mission and values, and the communities they serve.
- Staffing continues to be a key challenge, with nearly two thirds reporting difficulty filling vacancies and more than half noting insufficient funding to recruit, retain, and support their staff.
- Burnout remains a top concern: nearly 90 percent express concern about their own burnout and a similar percentage indicate burnout is impacting their staff.
In the words of one nonprofit leader, “The need for our services far outweighs our ability to meet the need in a way that does not completely overwhelm our staff and burn them out.”
