What’s on at CEP2023
CEP’s biennial national conference will be held this year at the Omni Seaport Hotel in Boston Oct. 30 – Nov. 1. As we draw closer to finalizing the agenda, we are excited to share more about two of our plenary speakers:
Internationally renowned musician Sona Jobarteh, the first professional female Kora virtuoso from a West African griot family, will perform in her unique and uplifting musical style and share a powerful message on social change, empowerment, and international development in an evening plenary session. Jobarteh has performed at world-class venues like the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles and the Barbican in London, has scored films, and has delivered her humanitarian message at summits at the UN, the World Trade Organization and UNICEF.
Scientist, climate solutions expert, and activist Ayana Elizabeth Johnson will take the main stage at CEP2023 to share her insight into forward-thinking climate change solutions and discuss the crucial role philanthropy must play in seeding, advancing, and supporting these solutions. Johnson is co-founder of the Urban Ocean Lab and The All We Can Save Project, co-editor of the bestselling climate anthology, “All We Can Save,” and co-creator of the podcast, “How to Save a Planet.”

CEP speakers possess deep expertise on a variety of subjects, from current giving trends to the challenges facing the nonprofit sector right now and the significant and meaningful ways that philanthropy has changed in recent years. This month, Grace Nicolette, vice president of programming and external relations, spoke to a community of funders gathered for the Essex County Community Foundation Funders Summit on the topic of “Philanthropy in the post-COVID Age: How have we changed, what will stick, and what lies ahead?” In addition, associate manager on the research team Katarina Malmgren presented the findings and implications of CEP’s research report, Much Alarm, Less Action: Foundations and Climate Change to a community of funders convened in an event hosted by WINGS and Active Philanthropy.
A CEP speaker can share their expertise at your upcoming event, too! Browse available CEP speakers and reach out to Grace Nicolette for more information or to inquire about booking a speaker.
